Recap: Florida vs. Anaheim

Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Brad Boyes netted the game-winner 4:29 into the third period, as the Florida Panthers potted three unanswered goals to rally for a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday at BB&T Center.

Trailing 2-0 after 20 minutes, Shawn Matthias and Scottie Upshall scored 1:10 apart in the second to even the contest before Boyes' backhander early in the third put the Panthers on top.

Tim Thomas turned away 32 shots, including 13 in the final frame to help snap Florida's nine-game skid and give interim head coach Peter Horachek his first win behind the Panthers' bench.

"Tonight we played 40 minutes and beat a heck of a hockey team," Horachek said of the team's lackluster start. "We still have lots of work to do but I'm really proud of the way we responded."

Andrew Cogliano and Hampus Lindholm each lit the lamp once for the Ducks, who had a nine-game point streak halted.

Rookie netminder Frederik Andersen entered the game undefeated in six starts this season, but gave up all three goals on 25 shots to absorb his first loss.

"We took it for granted that we were going to beat them," Andersen admitted. "They caught up with us in the second period."

With the game tied 2-2 early in the third, Andersen turned away Upshall's shot from in close, but Boyes was there to backhand the disc into the back of the net to make it 3-2 at 4:29.

Upshall was whistled for hooking at 16:40 to give the Ducks a late power play, but Thomas came up with a nice pad save on a cutting Emerson Etem with just over two minutes left to keep Florida in front.

Early on, the Ducks lit the lamp on the game's first shot, as Daniel Winnik wheeled around in the low right circle and slid the disc to the slot for a cutting Cogliano, who waited for Thomas to drop before beating the Florida netminder from the low left side to make it 1-0 just 40 seconds into the game.

Lindholm doubled the Ducks' lead at 14:26 when he rifled a wrister from above the left circle that sailed past Thomas' glove-side for a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers started their comeback bid at the 13:28 mark of the second when Brian Campbell faked a shot from the left point and dished to the right circle, where Matthias spun around before backhanding the disc under the pads of Andersen to make it 2-1.

Just over a minute later, Upshall threw a shot on net from the right point that deflected off an Anaheim stick in the circle and knuckled high in the air before hitting Lindholm's shoulder in front and finding the back of the net to tie the game at 14:38.

Game Notes

Cogliano extended his goal streak to a career-high four games ... Upshall recorded his second two-point game in his last five outings ... Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf missed his second straight game with an upper-body injury ... Anaheim went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Florida failed on all four of its opportunities on the man advantage.
