Recap: St. Louis vs. Los Angeles

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Quick made 28 stops, while Trevor Lewis scored twice in the third period to help Los Angeles claim a 4-1 victory over St. Louis at Scottrade Center.

"He's a number one goalie. Like everybody that has a number one goalie, he gives you the stability. He made some big saves in the third period. He did a good job tonight," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said.

Jake Muzzin tallied in the first period and Jeff Carter added an empty netter for the Kings, who kicked off a five-game road trip with a win over the second-stingiest defense in the entire NHL.

T.J. Oshie provided the sole offense for the Blues, who suffered their first home defeat since a 4-2 setback to San Jose on Dec. 17.

Jaroslav Halak stopped 27 shots, but was his own worst enemy on a key score in the final period.

Blues winger Ryan Reaves took a penalty at the end of the second period, and he couldn't catch up to the play as a centering feed from Lewis that was intended for King caromed off the skate of Jaden Schwartz and inside the left post at 2:04 of the third for a 2-1 LA edge.

It was a 3-1 game at 4:21, just 10 seconds after Carter sat for hooking. Halak collected a dump-in behind his net, but failed to see Lewis in pursuit. He picked up the disc, circled the net and tucked it inside the left post.

"I think I made a mistake at the worst possible time with the game on the line for us. Will take blame for this one. We lost two points because of me," said Halak.

Halak was sent to the bench during a 4-on-4 situation with 1:33 left in regulation and Carter chased down a puck at center ice before hitting the empty net with 55.5 seconds to play.

Muzzin beat Halak just 2:31 into the contest on a low shot from the left point.

Oshie was dragged down on a scoring chance just before the six-minute mark of the second, and beat Quick on the subsequent penalty shot to even the score.
