Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Florida

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Shore scored twice and Jesse Winchester added three assists, as Florida put an end to Pittsburgh's team- record 13-game home winning streak with a convincing 5-1 decision at CONSOL Energy Center.

Jonathan Huberdeau, Dmitry Kulikov and Shawn Matthias also lit the lamp for the Panthers, who halted an eight-game slide in the Steel City since a 6-1 result on Jan. 3, 2009 at the now-demolished Mellon Arena.

Scott Clemmensen put the clamps down on the best team in the Eastern Conference with 35 saves.

"This was a good showing from our guys to beat a team like Pittsburgh, it makes you feel that you can beat the good teams if you prepare and play 60 minutes," Panthers coach Peter Horacheck said.

Matt Niskanen registered the lone goal and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 23 shots for the Penguins, who hadn't lost on friendly ice since a 2-1 setback to the Flyers on Nov. 13.

"I don't think this was our best team game and I wish I could have done more to prevent the goals and keep it a closer game. Tough loss," Fleury said.

Kulikov put Florida up by three with his stuffer attempt at the right post only 1:17 into the final frame.

The hosts kept pressing, and seconds after stoning Evgeni Malkin from the right side, Clemmensen let a left-point drive by Niskanen trickle through his pads at 5:11.

The Panthers assumed a three-goal edge once more with 6:10 remaining in the contest, when a lengthy review determined that Huberdeau's try through a goalmouth scramble was not illegally sent into the net.

Matthias then lifted a shot inside the near post on a rush from the left wing 12 seconds later for a four-goal spread and the hosts were subdued.

Shore provided the only offense of the opening period, beating Fleury with a wrister off a 2-on-1 short-handed break just over four minutes remaining. Clemmensen kept up his end of the bargain with 14 saves.

It was 2-0 after Shore clicked on a one-timer from the left wing at the 13:34 mark of the second period.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
