Recap: San Jose vs. Calgary

San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Pavelski scored twice as the San Jose Sharks edged the Calgary Flames, 3-2, on Monday.

Fresh off his first career hat trick, a natural one, in a 5-4 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday, Pavelski recorded his 26th and 27th goals of the season, with the last one helping the Sharks win a fourth straight game.

"I feel good, obviously there are nights when you don't feel your best and still get one or two. But this felt like how it should always feel when you play all the time. It's the way you picture it, I've visualized this a few times. It shouldn't be anything new," Pavelski said.

Tommy Wingels had the other goal, while Antti Niemi allowed two goals on 23 shots for San Jose, which has won all three matchups with Calgary this season.

Kevin Westgarth and Jiri Hudler lit the lamp for the Flames, who have dropped four straight and seven of eight. Karri Ramo gave up all three goals on 27 shots in the loss.

"We ended up getting down with a couple of weird bounces. That's one of the best teams in the NHL and we stuck with them the whole game, and I think outplayed them over the final 20 minutes. It's tough when we're not putting pucks in the net, so I'm happy to pitch in," Westgarth said.

Before the game, Calgary head coach Bob Hartley was issued a $25,000 fine from the NHL stemming from his actions in Saturday's game against Vancouver.

"All incidents that happen, the league will look into it. They are in a tough spot and make a decision that is best for the league. I will respect their decision," Hartley said.

Calgary got the first goal of the game at 4:08 of the first period as Hudler dragged the puck from the left boards to the front before backhanding in a shot for his 13th of the year.

The Sharks, though, scored two goals on two shots later in the frame to take a 2-1 lead.

The first goal came at 12:22 as Justin Braun sent a shot on net from the right point that went in off of Pavelski in front of the net. Just 21 seconds later, Wingels' sweep shot from the right boards snuck into the net for his 10th of the season.

However, the Flames scored less than a minute later to tie the game as Brain McGrattan's wrister from the right point was stopped, but Westgarth was in the slot to snap home the rebound for his first goal of the year.

The score stayed that way until San Jose was awarded a power play in the second period after Matt Stajan was issued the only penalty of the game for interference.

On the advantage, Joe Thornton threw a shot on net from the left point that was redirected in by Pavelski for a 3-2 lead with 5:06 to play in the frame.

Calgary was unable to get much going in the final period, and pulled Ramo with 1 1/2 minutes to play for an extra attacker, but were unable to get any quality chances before time expired.
