Recap: Calgary vs. Phoenix

Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Calgary Flames won at Scotiabank Saddledome for the first time since Dec. 23.

Matt Stajan's goal late in the second period proved to be the difference in the Flames' 3-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday.

Sean Monahan and Lance Bouma also lit the lamp for Calgary, which snapped a team-record seven-game home losing streak. Karri Ramo stopped 30-of-32 shots.

"We needed that," Stajan said. "We've been fighting it here on home ice, there's no secret to that. We got some timely goals and Ramo did a good job there. And as a team, we didn't give up much. Most of the shots were from the outside. We can start building off that one."

Antoine Vermette and Shane Doan scored for the Coyotes, who have lost two in a row. Mike Smith turned aside 23-of-26 shots.

Monahan scored at 11:44 of the first period to give the Flames a 1-0 lead. TJ Galiardi's cross-ice pass landed on the stick of Monahan, who tapped in his team-leading 14th goal of the season.

Bouma made it 2-0 at 8:48 of the middle stanza by scoring on a breakaway. He took a pass from TJ Brodie and beat Smith from the bottom of the left circle.

Phoenix got within one on Vermette's second short-handed goal in as many games at 12:27. Vermette's one-timer from the point sailed past Ramo's shoulder.

Stajan restored Calgary's two-goal cushion at the 16:01 mark when he found a loose puck in the high slot.

Doan scored from the left circle at the 6:50 mark of the third period to get the Coyotes within one.

Phoenix was unable to get another puck past Ramo.

"We have to just keep pounding away," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "We've got a lot of guys who are playing hard. We just have to turn it into results."
