Recap: St. Louis vs. Vancouver

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Kesler scored his second goal with 14.7 seconds left in overtime as the Vancouver Canucks wrapped up their successful road trip with a 3-2 win over a St. Louis team that was well rested.

Vancouver's Daniel Sedin drew a hooking penalty on Patrik Berglund with 34 seconds remaining in the extra session. Sedin then sent a fluttering puck from the slot towards Jaroslav Halak, but Kesler, who was planted on the doorstep, knocked down the shot and beat the Blues goaltender on the backhand from the crease.

"Danny (Sedin) took a shot and it kind of went up in the air and I kind of knocked it down and knocked it in," Kesler said. "We needed that. Our power play won us the game tonight."

Chris Higgins scored the other goal for Vancouver, which finished 5-1-1 on its season-high trek. Eddie Lack made 22 saves in his third NHL start.

Halak stopped 18 shots for the Blues, who had been idle since a 4-3 shootout loss at Winnipeg last Friday. St. Louis fell to 1-1-2 over its last four games after starting the season with four straight wins.

"It's unacceptable," St. Louis captain David Backes said. "They're a team that played last night, which we knew they were going to be ready to go. They don't even get time to think about it and they're right into the game and we had a week off. We can't start slow, we can't dig holes like that and expect to be able to dig out."

The Canucks blew a 2-0 lead, with the Blues tying the game on goals by Alexander Steen and Vladimir Sobotka.

Steen scored on a 5-on-3 power play with seven seconds left in the second period, then Sobotka lit the lamp at the 1:38 mark of the third period.

Higgins was the recipient of a fortuitous carom on the game's opening tally. St. Louis defenseman Roman Polak went down to block Higgins' shot, but the puck deflected off Polak and past Halak's glove with 2:49 left in the first period.

Kesler doubled the advantage off a steal in the second. Mike Santorelli stripped the puck from defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk behind the St. Louis net and fed Kesler, who scored from the high slot.
