Recap: Phoenix vs. Colorado

Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan O'Reilly's power-play tally with 41.1 seconds remaining in overtime lifted Colorado over Phoenix, 4-3, on Thursday.

Antoine Vermette gave the hosts a 3-2 edge with 5:54 on the clock, but the visitors struck back with Cody McLeod's score at 16:46 to send the game to the extra session.

Once there, the Avs failed to convert the final 1:32 of a charging call to Martin Hanzal, but ended the game after Keith Yandle was sent off for slashing with 1:35 to play in OT.

PA Parenteau slid a pass into the right circle, where O'Reilly beat Mike Smith to the far side.

"It would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves when they took the lead 3-2, but I thought our guys were resilient again," said Avalanche coach Patrick Roy.

John Mitchell and Andre Benoit also tallied, with Parenteau adding two assists and Semyon Varlamov stopping 41 shots for the Avalanche, who have won two in a row following a three-game losing streak.

Hanzal and Michael Stone lit the lamp, while Smith stopped 26 shots for the Coyotes, who have dropped two of three.

"It's disappointing when you don't get those two points, there's no doubt," said Vermette.

Mitchell's power-play strike with 32 seconds elapsed in the second period gave Colorado a 1-0 edge.

Benoit picked up his first goal of the season with 4:10 remaining in the second, but Phoenix responded before the end of the frame on Stone's blast at 17:10.

The Coyotes tied the contest just after the midway point of the third on Hanzal's second-chance stuffer attempt from the right side of the crease.

Game Notes

Colorado upped its record to 14-0-0 when scoring the game's first goal ... Benoit added two assists for a career-best three points ... The Coyotes have not lost a home game in regulation this season (9-0-2), matching a club record set in 1998-99 when ties were counted in the standings ... Phoenix boasts a league-high 19 goals from defensemen.

Dorm Report: West Virginia goes wild, not so wonderful

There was quite a bit of hitting on the field at Milan Puskar Stadium last weekend, but almost as much action took place in the streets just outside in the hours following West Virginia's upset of visiting Baylor.
