Recap: NY Islanders vs. Boston

Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Brad Marchand led the way with a goal and three assists, as Boston bested the New York Islanders, 6-3, at Nassau Coliseum.

Patrice Bergeron contributed a score and two helpers for the Bruins, who showed no signs of slowing down from a 6-1 thrashing of the Flyers on Saturday and won for the fourth time in their last five.

Reilly Smith, Loui Eriksson, Zdeno Chara and Carl Soderberg added markers to back a 34-save performance from Chad Johnson.

"We got contributions from every line. That's how we win games and what makes us so tough to play against," Marchand said.

Kyle Okposo scored and assisted on two more tallies for the Islanders, who have dropped three straight and five of their last eight. Michael Grabner and Frans Nielsen lit the lamp in defeat.

"We played well but didn't bury enough chances," Okposo said.

Kevin Poulin was yanked after yielding six goals on 26 shots in 48-plus minutes. Evgeni Nabokov saw his first action since being activated from injured reserve, stopping the only shot faced the rest of the way.

Just after killing off a Bergeron minor, the Bruins took a 5-3 edge at 2:17 of the third when Marchand fed Bergeron for a one-timer which clanged off the right post and in.

Chara slipped one past Poulin thanks to a Smith screen and it was a three-goal margin for the visitors at 8:12. Johnson and the Bruins defense made sure the lead stood until the buzzer.

Eriksson put the visitors on the board at 7:47 of the first on his high shot from the goal line to the right of the New York net.

Just over a minute after their first power-play elapsed, the hosts drew even as Nielsen potted his own rebound from the left side of the crease.

Boston pulled ahead thanks to Marchand, who finished off a passing play between Smith and Bergeron at 4:50 of the second period.

Grabner evened the score on a delayed penalty call, beating Johnson after a Boston turnover at 8:20, yet Smith struck just over four minutes later to give the Bruins a one-goal lead once more.

Soderberg sent the B's to intermission up 4-3 on his marker with 33 seconds left. He skated up the right wing and maneuvered around New York's Thomas Hickey before scoring on the forehand.
