Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Boston

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jussi Jokinen's goal late in the third period proved to be the game-winner, as the Pittsburgh Penguins exacted a measure of revenge against the Boston Bruins with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Center.

Pittsburgh was swept by Boston in the Eastern Conference Finals last year, but got goals from Chris Kunitz and Brandon Sutter, along with 21 saves from Marc- Andre Fleury, to secure their second straight victory.

"With the way things ended last year we knew what kind of team we were playing," Sutter said. "They're a very good defensive team. That's a big building block for us."

Patrice Bergeron notched a goal and an assist, while Jarome Iginla lit the lamp late for the Bruins, who have lost seven straight regular-season meetings against the Penguins.

Tuukka Rask allowed all three goals on 31 shots in defeat.

Kunitz's power-play marker just under seven minutes into the second served as the game's only goal until Bergeron tipped-in Dennis Seidenberg's blast from the left point to tie the game 1:05 into the third period.

Pittsburgh regained the lead with nine minutes remaining, as Brooks Orpik's stretch pass from his own zone deflected off Pascal Dupuis' stick in the neutral zone and sprang Sutter down the right side.

With room to work, Sutter skated into the right circle before rifling a shot that sailed past the blocker side of Rask to make it 2-1 at 11:00.

Jokinen added an important insurance tally just under seven minutes later, as he came up with a steal in the Boston zone before snapping a shot past Rask's blocker for a 3-1 lead at 17:58.

With Rask on the Boston bench in favor of an extra attacker, Bergeron won a faceoff in the right circle over to Milan Lucic, who quickly dished to the high slot, where Iginla launched a one-timer into the back of the net to bring the Bruins within a goal with 1:43 remaining.

Boston would get no closer, however, as Fleury fought off a flurry of shots down the stretch to keep the Penguins in front.

"We know we can be a lot better," Iginla said. "In the third, we were a lot better and were able to get back into it, but just came up short."

Lucic's interference penalty at the 6:15 mark of the second stanza led to the game's first goal, as Kunitz camped out in front and had a shot go off his body before backhanding the disc between his legs and through the pads of Rask to make it 1-0 at 6:54.

Johnson headlines FCS players of the week

In 2013, the Montana State Bobcats made a bit of an offensive switch, going from a pass-heavy system to a more run- integrated style of play. The reason wasn't because the team was unstable at quarterback, but rather due to the fact the Bobcats were loaded at the running back position.
