Recap: Calgary vs. Toronto

Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Bernier stopped 41 shots as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Calgary Flames, 4-2, at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Joffrey Lupul, James van Riemsdyk, Mason Raymond, and Paul Ranger all lit the lamp for Toronto. David Clarkson picked up his first point as a Maple Leaf on an assist as Toronto went on to win its third straight game.

"I think you can't look past your goaltender. He's given us a chance no matter who we put in the net. We're able to provide quality goaltending," said Toronto coach Randy Carlyle.

Matt Stajan and David Jones both scored for Calgary, while netminder Karri Ramo stopped 18-of-21 shots in defeat. The Flames have now lost three of their last four games.

"I felt that we had a good game. We are not very pleased with the result but I don't know what we could have done more. Offensively we generated a lot. Our forechecking was good. Our puck decisions in the offensive zone were very good but Bernier basically stole the game away from us," said Calgary coach Bob Hartley.

Lupul opened up the scoring for Toronto. The winger put a wrister past Ramo with the helpers coming from Jake Gardiner and Nazem Kadri.

Toronto added a late first period goal when van Riemsdyk took a pass from Jay McClement after entering Calgary's zone with four seconds left to score a short-handed goal.

Stajan took a backhand pass from Curtis Glencross in the middle and rifled a shot past Bernier for his first of the season to cut Toronto's lead in half with close to three minutes remaining in the second.

Raymond scored on the backhand after taking a pass from Clarkson to extend Toronto's lead back to two goals at the 5:59 of the third period.

The Flames got within one with 5:21 to go. Calgary put traffic in front of the net when Kris Russell fired off a shot from the left circle, which allowed Jones to deflect the puck past Bernier.

Calgary went on a man-advantage as Clarkson went off for boarding with three minutes to go. The Flames pulled Ramo in favor of an extra attacker, but Ranger scored on the empty net to seal the victory for Toronto.
