Recap: Boston vs. Washington

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Ovechkin scored twice as the Washington Capitals took a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

Joel Ward had a goal and an assist and Eric Fehr also scored for the Capitals, who have won four straight. Braden Holtby stopped 36 shots in the win.

"That's a really good team over there and to get a win up here is big for us," said Holtby. "I thought we played well and executed on the power play and penalty kill."

Patrice Bergeron and Shawn Thornton scored for the Bruins, who have dropped their first two games coming out of the Olympic break. Tuukka Rask gave up all four goals on 31 shots.

"For sure, it wasn't our best game," said Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara. "We could've probably done a number of things differently, and better. We have to learn from games like this, especially against an opponent like this."

Boston had a full two minutes of a 5-on-3 advantage after Jay Beagle and Tom Wilson were issued minors at 6:57 of the first period, but they were unable to get one past Holtby.

The Caps, though, did take advantage of a power play after Chris Kelly was whistled for interference at 18:12. Holding the puck in the high slot, John Carlson threw the disc over to the left circle where Ovechkin was parked for a one-timer that went in with 1:21 to play in the first.

It was a 2-0 game 2:24 into the second as Ward sent a pass from the right wing to the slot where Marcus Johansson one-touched it over to the left wing, where Ovechkin's high one-timer found the back of the net for another power-play goal.

The goal was his league-leading 43rd of the season and was also the 800th point in his career.

Washington made it a 3-0 game halfway through the middle stanza as Ward picked off the puck near the blueline and squeezed between the defenders before deking Rask with a backhand for his 18th of the season.

Boston got one back less than a minute later. On a man advantage, Dougie Hamilton took a feed in the high slot and skated to the right circle before passing it to his left where Bergeron beat Holtby with a wrister through a screen.

It was a one-goal game with 2:28 to play in the second period after Boston finished off a rush play. Greg Campbell brought the puck in down the right wing and chipped it over to the left side for Daniel Paille, who then centered the puck where Thornton got a stick on it for his fifth of the season.

Fehr, though, gave the Caps some insurance with 9:07 to play as he finished a clean breakaway with a wrist shot past Rask for his 10th goal of the season.
