Recap: Nashville vs. Philadelphia

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Vincent Lecavalier notched the lone goal in the shootout and Steve Mason came up with 34 saves, as Philadelphia halted a 13-plus-year winless streak in Nashville with a 3-2 victory at Bridgestone Arena.

Lecavalier finished the first round by scoring on the forehand, then Mason halted tries from Matt Hendricks and Matt Cullen to end the contest.

It was the club's first win in the Music City since a 2-0 result on March 21, 2000, snapping a five-game winless string.

"It's nice to get a win in the shootout. I'm not a big fan but I'll take the two points," Mason admitted. "It's a huge step. Even without our best effort, to come out and get a win is huge."

Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier scored in regulation for the Flyers, who kicked off a six-game road trip with their second straight win and fifth in the last seven overall.

Mike Fisher and Colin Wilson lit the lamp for the Predators, losers for just the third time in their last eight outings.

Marek Mazanec took the loss despite 22 stops.

"We should have won the game, but we didn't," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "We couldn't hold onto the lead."

Both teams failed to click on early power plays, and after the Flyers wasted their first chance, Giroux ripped a shot from between the circles for a 1-0 game with 3:11 left before the first intermission.

Fisher responded on a shot inside the far post from the left wing one minute later.

Following a scoreless middle period, the Preds took a 2-1 lead just after the five-minute mark.

Wilson and Fisher had a 2-on-1 break, and when the former tried to dish across to the latter, the puck caromed off Philly defenseman Braydon Coburn and slid between Mason's pads.

The game was tied with 6:54 left in regulation, as Andrej Meszaros drifted in from his point position, pivoted at the goal line and sent a backhand feed across the crease for Couturier's successful one-timer.

Overtime was played at a breakneck pace, with Nashville getting the two best chances. Wilson cranked a shot off the inside of the right post just after the midway point, and with less than a minute showing he broke in alone but Mason was equal with the right pad on a backhander.

Game Notes

Philadelphia improved to 1-1 in shootouts this season ... Flyers forward Scott Hartnell posted a game-high seven shots on goal ... Nashville, which played without defensemen Shea Weber and Kevin Klein, also placed forward Filip Forsberg on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Joe Piskula from Milwaukee of the AHL.
