Recap: Washington vs. Winnipeg

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Troy Brouwer scored a pair of goals to lead the Washington Capitals to a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets at Verizon Center.

Alexander Ovechkin and Tom Wilson also scored for the Capitals, winners in two of their last three games. Braden Holtby made 34 saves in the win.

Bryan Little and Dustin Byfuglien had one goal apiece for the Jets, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Ondrej Pavelec allowed all four goals on 30 shots in the setback.

"We'll leave this game entirely here. We're not bringing any of it on the plane. We will look at the things structurally that are part of every game, not just specific to the Washington game, and keep trying to get better," said Jets coach Paul Maurice.

Washington rallied for three goals in the final period to claim the win.

First, Wilson slammed home a bouncing puck in traffic in front of the net at 3:38 to tie things up at 2-2.

Ovechkin potted the eventual game-winner at the 7:46 mark. With a pileup in front of the Jets' net, he skated in and backhanded the puck, which was resting untouched just outside the crease, into the net.

Brouwer added an insurance goal at 15:15 to account for the final difference.

"We came out, we started winning battles and as a result we were holding the puck a little bit more -- creating some more opportunities," Brouwer said of Washington's strong third session. "Good defensive play, which led to some rushes offensively."

Brouwer opened up the scoring 4:56 in with a successful backhander. Marcus Johansson controlled the puck behind the Winnipeg net and found Brouwer cutting in front, with the latter flipping it over Pavelec's pad for a 1-0 lead.

Little tied things up at 13:02. He fired a shot that was stopped by Holtby, but the rebound bounced off a Washington defender's leg and into the net.

Byfuglien's marker at 5:41 of the middle session gave the Jets a 2-1 lead. Devin Setoguchi skated in along the left side and dropped a cross-ice pass back to a trailing Byfuglien, who blasted it into the back of the net.
