Recap: Edmonton vs. Colorado

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 22 shots and the Colorado Avalanche grabbed a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

First place in the Central Division, and in the Western Conference overall, is still in play for the Avalanche as the team has 109 points on the season, two back of St. Louis for both positions. Both teams have three games to play.

Tyson Barrie, Erik Johnson, Jamie McGinn and Paul Stastny all scored for the Avalanche, who have won seven of their past eight games.

David Perron scored the only goal of the game for the Oilers, who sit dead last in the conference with just 65 points. Ben Scrivens allowed all four goals on 33 shots in the loss.

"We couldn't get into the rhythm of the game," said Edmonton head coach Dallas Eakins. "The biggest thing for me was it was almost like we couldn't work because we couldn't make two passes in a row. Our execution was just terrible tonight for whatever reason and it happens."

Colorado score 4:13 into the game when Stastny jammed the puck in during a scrum in front for his 23rd of the season.

The Oilers tied the game on a power-play goal as Perron's pass from the left side went off the skate of Nick Holden in front at 16:58 of the first.

However, the game stayed tied for just 12 seconds thanks to Johnson skating through the middle and beat the defenders before firing a shot past Scrivens for his ninth of the season.

"Anytime you're a team where you score and the other team comes out the shift after and scores right after it's definitely a buzzkill and a momentum killer," said Johnson. "We controlled the pace of the game, the entire game, after that and maybe that was the reason why, maybe not but it definitely felt good to get that go-ahead goal at that time."

Giguere made 10 saves in the second period while Scrivens stopped nine to keep it a one-goal game.

At 7:34 of the third, the Avs gave themselves a two-goal lead as Barrie buried a shot from the slot on the power play for a 3-1 lead.

Colorado sealed the win with 3:41 to play on McGinn's rebound goal from the front for his 19th of the season.
