Recap: Colorado vs. Winnipeg

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Duchene scored 2:33 into overtime as the Colorado Avalanche topped the Winnipeg Jets, 3-2, at Pepsi Center.

Duchene lost control of the puck after twirling out of the corner. Winnipeg defenseman Tobias Enstrom tried to chip the puck away from the crease area, but it hit Duchene and the Avalanche forward scored on a backhand.

"I just got a nice bounce," Duchene said.

John Mitchell had a goal and an assist for Colorado, which has won five of its last six games. Semyon Varlamov made 33 saves, including one on a first-period penalty shot.

The Avalanche went into Monday's game minus offensive threat Paul Stastny (back) and lost another one when forward P.A. Parenteau left with a right knee injury.

"It was unfortunate to lose P.A. tonight. It's a big loss for us, but we handled it well," Duchene said. "It's tough losing two key guys that are part of our unit."

Parenteau is likely to miss the remainder of the regular season with an injury to his medial collateral ligament.

Dustin Byfuglien scored both Winnipeg goals and was helpless in trying to contain Duchene on the game-winner.

"He got position at the net. The puck came right back to him and a guy like that, he will not miss those," Byfuglien said.

Al Montoya stopped 31 shots in the loss, the Jets' fourth in a row.

The Winnipeg penalty-killing unit helped secure the point. Colorado had a fairly large edge in power plays, but went 0-for-6 on the man advantage.

All four regulation goals were scored in the second period.

Colorado took a 1-0 lead when Mitchell accepted a drop pass from Tyson Barrie at the Winnipeg blue line and had his feed to rookie Nathan MacKinnon at the front of the net deflect in off Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian at the 4:38 mark.

Byfuglien converted on Winnipeg's lone power play, tying the game with 4:12 remaining, and banked the puck in off Varlamov from behind the goal line to give the Jets a 2-1 lead with 2:24 to play.

The Avalanche pulled even with 12 seconds left. After a faceoff win by Mitchell, Andre Benoit beat Montoya from the left point with a slap shot.

Game Notes

Duchene extended his career-high point streak to eight games ... All four meetings between Colorado and Winnipeg this season have been decided by one goal. The Avalanche are 3-0-1.
