Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Los Angeles

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Doughty scored the game-winner early in the third period and the Los Angeles Kings stayed hot on the road with a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Alec Martinez and Jeff Carter also scored for the Kings, who have won eight straight away from home to tie the franchise's longest road winning streak set from Dec. 18, 1974-Jan. 16, 1975.

Martin Jones stopped 35-of-37 shots for Los Angeles, which has won five in a row and sits third in the Pacific Division.

The Kings finished their three-game road trip with wins against Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Washington.

"They're all such good buildings and good teams," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "All three teams are in different places in their standings, so if you can get six points you take it."

Taylor Pyatt and Chris Kunitz lit the lamp for the Metropolitan Division- leading Penguins, who came into Thursday's game needing one point to clinch a playoff spot.

Jeff Zatkoff turned aside 29-of-32 shots for Pittsburgh, which has dropped three straight.

Doughty's one-timer from the top of the right circle gave the Kings a 3-2 lead at the 3:51 mark of the third period.

The Penguins thought they tied the game at 9:41, but a video review showed that Pittsburgh's Brandon Sutter pushed Jones' pad and the puck into the net, impeding Jones' ability to play his position.

"I was pretty surprised," Brandon Sutter said. "I just thought the puck came through the crease and I was just trying to jam away at it and it was loose the whole time. I definitely got pushed into the net and the puck went off of me somehow.

"I have no idea how they didn't call it a goal."

Jones made 13 saves over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory for the Kings.

The Kings took a 1-0 lead on Carter's power-play goal at 15:23 of the first period. Marian Gaborik's shot from the top of the right circle was deflected in by Carter.

Martinez's blast from the point sailed past Zatkoff to make it 2-0 at 6:59 of the middle stanza.

The Penguins answered just 34 seconds later when Kunitz put home Jayson Megna's cross-crease pass.

Pyatt tied the game at 15:42 of the second on a fortuitous bounce. His shot from the right circle hit off Jones' shoulder and bounced in the crease before crossing the line.
