Recap: Dallas vs. Nashville

Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Dallas got goals from seven different players and picked up a big win with a 7-3 victory over the Nashville Predators on Friday.

The Stars currently have 81 points and sit three points back of idle Phoenix for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Dallas, though, does have a game in hand on the Coyotes.

"We've had a couple of games in our pocket going into tonight," said Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff. "I said yesterday that we're just going to worry about playing one game at a time and not look any further than that. We got the game we wanted and now we have to go out and get the game tomorrow."

Trevor Daley, Alex Chiasson, Ryan Garbutt, Cody Eakin, Colton Sceviour, Vernon Fiddler and Valeri Nichushkin all lit the lamp for the Stars, who have won three of their past four. Kari Lehtonen gave up three goals on 28 shots.

Michael Del Zotto, Eric Nystrom and Patric Hornqvist all scored for the Predators, who had won three of four coming into the game. Pekka Rinne was lit up for all seven goals on 29 shots.

"I think we just lacked a little poise," said Nystrom. "They had a lot of energy and we were just kind of forcing plays in the right places and they did a great job putting pucks in front of the net. They were getting traffic there and they had bodies going to the net all night and they got re-direct goals. We couldn't stop the rush game."

Nashville's hopes of making the postseason are all but gone as the team is nine points back of Phoenix with just seven games remaining.

Dallas held a 2-0 lead going into the second period, but the Predators scored 2:53 in as Hornqvist's low shot snuck between the pads of Lehtonen.

The Stars, though, got the goal back at 5:37 as Daley's slap shot from the high slot was pushed in by Sceviour, and it was a 4-1 game as Chiasson re- directed a Ray Whitney shot on the power play at 8:58.

The Predators made it a 4-2 game 55 seconds later as Del Zotto's big blast from the high slot went through a screen, but the Stars again made it a three- goal game when Daley stuffed the puck in from the right side at 11:19.

Nashville got a quick goal to start the third period as Nystrom's blast sailed past Lehtonen at 1:48 to make it a 5-3 contest.

Dallas, though, got goals nine seconds apart from Nichushkin and Eakin near the eight-minute mark of the third to put the game away.

Goals from Garbutt and Fiddler at 8:03 and 14:05, respectively, in the first period staked Dallas to a solid advantage.

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
