Recap: NY Islanders vs. Nashville

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - John Tavares had a pair of first period tallies and the New York Islanders built a five-goal lead before holding on to a 6-4 victory over the Nashville Predators in preseason action Friday.

Lubomir Visnovsky, Colin McDonald, Matt Donovan and Josh Bailey each potted a goal for the Islanders. Goaltender Evgeni Nabokov made 23 saves, but allowed three third period goals.

New York will play the Ottawa Senators twice before opening its regular season schedule in New Jersey against the Devils on Oct. 4

Nashville wrapped up its preseason at 2-4-1 and will be on the road in St. Louis when it begins its regular season against the Blues on Oct. 3.

Craig Smith had two goals, one in the first and another in the third. Simon Moser and Roman Josi each found the back of the net in the third as well for the Predators.
