Recap: Detroit vs. Boston

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Tuukka Rask and the Boston Bruins silenced the Detroit crowd with a 3-0 victory in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

Rask made 23 saves to record his fourth career shutout in the playoffs for the Bruins, who have won two straight since a 1-0 loss in Game 1.

"It's really good team defense," said Rask. "I don't think we've given them that many scoring chances. Today, they had four shots for a long time in the game. They had the power plays and a couple of shots and got the momentum there, but we were good at limiting their scoring chances."

Dougie Hamilton, Jordan Caron and Patrice Bergeron scored for Boston, which won at Joe Louis Arena for the first time since March 11, 2007.

Jimmy Howard stopped 31-of-33 shots for the Red Wings, who went 0-for-3 on the power play.

"I don't think there's ever anything wrong with losing when you maximize your group and did everything you could," said Red Wings coach Mike Babcock. "That's why that's disappointing to me. We've been a way better team than that. That's unacceptable. And that's not taking away anything from the Bruins."

Game 4 is set for Thursday.

The Bruins almost scored 3 1/2 minutes into the game. After Detroit turned the puck over in its own zone, Hamilton hit the post. Howard fell on the puck and some shoving took place after the whistle. Justin Abdelkader and Caron went off for roughing.

Neither team found the back of the net during 4-on-4 action, but the Red Wings were called for too many men on the ice at 7:40. Boston capitalized on the man advantage as Hamilton carried the puck into the offensive zone and beat Howard from the right circle.

The Bruins, this season's Presidents' Trophy winners, took a 2-0 lead at 15:48 of the first when Caron put home a rebound off Shawn Thornton's shot.

Detroit's first power play of the contest came midway through the middle stanza. They had a 5-on-3 for 35 seconds after Boston was called for too many men on the ice. But Rask was able to preserve the two-goal margin.

Each team had 12 shots during a scoreless second stanza.

The Red Wings failed to score on their only power play of the third period.

Bergeron scored an empty-net goal at 18:01 to seal Boston's victory.

Johnson headlines FCS players of the week

In 2013, the Montana State Bobcats made a bit of an offensive switch, going from a pass-heavy system to a more run- integrated style of play. The reason wasn't because the team was unstable at quarterback, but rather due to the fact the Bobcats were loaded at the running back position.
