Recap: Pittsburgh vs. NY Rangers

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Marc-Andre Fleury made 22 saves and the Pittsburgh Penguins evened their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the New York Rangers with a 3-0 win in Game 2 at CONSOL Energy Center.

Fleury set a franchise record with his seventh career playoff shutout.

Kris Letang was credited with a goal and collected assists on third-period goals by Jussi Jokinen and Evgeni Malkin, as the Penguins bounced back from a 3-2 overtime loss Friday night.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 32 shots for New York.

The series shifts to Madison Square Garden for Game 3 on Monday.

If not for Lundqvist's strong play, the Rangers were looking at a blowout loss.

New York trailed by one deep into the third period before Jokinen converted on a power play. Lundqvist turned away James Neal's left-circle shot with his pad and Jokinen roofed the rebound from the bottom of the right circle with 3:30 remaining.

Malkin added an empty-netter with 53.5 seconds left.

"We were extremely good tonight," said Pittsburgh head coach Dan Bylsma. "It's hard fought. It's a one-goal game. It's pretty much on the table until the end of the game, and it was a huge win for us."

The power play remains a sore spot for the Rangers, who have failed to score on their past 29 attempts with the man advantage after finishing 0-for-4 Sunday.

New York had three opportunities to end its power-play drought in the game's opening 10 minutes, but mustered few quality chances.

"Power play had some looks," Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault said. "Could have given us momentum, we didn't finish. Power play ultimately is my responsibility, and I've got to find the right trigger points here to make it work and spend the night trying to figure it out."

Pittsburgh got on the board at the 10:26 mark of the second period. Letang joined the rush, handled a cross-ice pass from Malkin and looked to feed Chris Kunitz driving hard to the net. The defenseman fired the puck from the right circle and it deflected in off the stick New York blueliner Dan Girardi, who had dove in attempt to break up the pass.

Game Notes

Fleury earned the 50th playoff win of his career. He had been tied with Tom Barrasso on the club's all-time playoff shutout list ... Letang's goal was the 15th of his postseason career, tying Larry Murphy for the most by a defenseman in franchise history ... Jokinen extended his career-high playoff point streak to six games ... The Rangers have lost eight straight Game 2s ... Lundqvist tied Mike Richter for the most games played in the postseason by a goalie in franchise history with 76.
