Recap: Washington vs. Carolina

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Troy Brouwer and Brooks Laich each had a goal and an assist to lead the Washington Capitals to a 5-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in the preseason finale for both teams on Sunday.

Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Jason Chimera also scored, while Matt Niskanen and Brooks Orpik each added two helpers apiece for Washington, which will open the regular season at home against Montreal on Thursday.

Braden Holtby made 19 saves in the win.

Jiri Tlusty and John-Michael Liles both lit the lamp and Anton Khudobin allowed all five goals on 38 shots for the Hurricanes, who will host the New York Islanders in their regular season opener on Friday.
