Recap: Ottawa vs. Detroit

Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrick Wiercioch tallied the go-ahead goal late in the third to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

Erik Karlsson finished with a power-play goal and an assist and Clarke MacArthur scored on an empty net for Ottawa, which snapped a two-game skid.

Craig Anderson turned aside 31 shots in the win.

Henrik Zetterberg provided Detroit's lone goal and Jimmy Howard stopped 29-of- 31 shots.

"I thought they played good and we were as bad as we could be," Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock said.

After a failed Detroit clear, Wiercioch took a pass from Mark Stone, skated into the high slot and wristed a shot past the active stick of Drew Miller and Howard for a 2-1 lead with 5:23 to play.

Detroit had its chances, but failed to convert on a Jared Cowen holding penalty with five minutes to play. MacArthur sealed the win for Ottawa with an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Ottawa dominated in the opening stanza, outshooting Detroit by a 16-2 margin, and finally got on the board with 5:23 remaining in the second.

Karlsson took a feed from Turris at the top of the circle and blasted a shot from the point past Howard for a power-play goal.

Danny DeKeyser's shot in close was turned aside by Anderson, but Zetterberg tracked down the rebound and backhanded it past the glove of the Ottawa netminder for a tie game 2:34 into the third.

Anderson stacked the pads to deny Tomas Jurco of the go-ahead goal four minutes later.

"It was one of those things where you don't think you just react," Anderson said of the save. "It's one of those things where you look great if you make the save, but look pretty silly if you don't make the save."
