Recap: Winnipeg vs. Nashville

Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Jets' shutout streak is over, but their winning streak reached three games.

Andrew Ladd and Mark Scheifele scored power-play goals in the first period as the Jets beat the Nashville Predators 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Ondrej Pavelec made 23 saves in his 300th career game, and Blake Wheeler added an empty-net goal for the Jets, who improved to 6-1-1 in their last eight contests.

"Wins change the pressure on the bench, and the confidence," said Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice. "Then as you get further and further into a rhythm of doing the same things over and over again in your own end you start to feel comfortable there. We made some mistakes and had some things go away from us at times, but success makes everything feel a little bit better, and a little more calm."

Nashville rookie forward Filip Forsberg scored at 16:17 of the second period, snapping Winnipeg's shutout streak at a franchise-record 164 minutes, 44 seconds. The Jets were coming off consecutive 1-0 victories against the Rangers and Blackhawks.

Carter Hutton, making only his second start of the season in place of workhorse Pekka Rinne, stopped 23 shots for Nashville, which fell to 2-2-0 on its six-game road trip.

The Jets, who were shut out 2-0 by Rinne in their home opener on Oct. 17, scored two early power-play goals.

Ladd was in front of the crease when he deflected Dustin Byfuglien's slap shot from the point behind Hutton 2:53 into the game.

Winnipeg went to back to the man advantage less than a minute later, and Scheifele beat Hutton on the stick side with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle at 5:29.

"We obviously dug ourselves a hole," said Nashville head coach Peter Laviolette. "I really liked the way we started the first three minutes, we were down in their end and we were pounding, and we ended up taking a penalty, and a quick goal. A few minutes later another penalty, another quick goal, and it's 2-0 and you've got to dig yourself out of a massive hole."

The Predators got on the board when Forsberg fired a wrist shot from the left circle that trickled through Pavelec and across the goal line.

Wheeler sealed the win with 1:40 to play after Winnipeg killed off a late penalty.
