Recap: Colorado vs. Vancouver

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Bonino scored twice during a four-goal third period as the Vancouver Canucks rallied past the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 on Tuesday night.

The Canucks scored five unanswered goals, including four in the first 13:10 of the third period after Henrik Sedin put them on the board with four seconds to play in the second period.

Ryan Miller made 20 saves for Vancouver, which opened a four-game road trip by posting its fifth win in six games and avenged a 7-3 loss to Colorado at Pepsi Center on Oct. 24.

John Mitchell and Jamie McGinn scored in the first period for the Avalanche, who have dropped three games in a row and fell to 3-6-5 on the season.

Semyon Varlamov turned aside the first 26 shots he faced before Henrik Sedin put home the rebound of his brother's right-point shot.

"I think in the second we just took the game over," said Vancouver forward Shawn Matthias. "It just seemed like we were rolling the lines and cycling the puck well. All four lines were going."

The Canucks carried the momentum into the third.

Derek Dorsett's redirection of a Dan Hamhuis shot fluttered by Varlamov, tying the game at 2:27.

Bonino had a pass from Chris Higgins deflect in off his left skate at 4:47, then he beat Varlamov high on the short side at 9:16.

Matthias capped the flurry with 6:50 to play.

"I mean third period we are up a goal and end up losing 5-2. It's unacceptable to say the least," Mitchell said. "We have to be better, we have to find a way. They come out and score a goal early, it's 2-2. We can't come out and completely fall apart, you know, shut it down. We have to learn to respond and come out and play hard after that. We just didn't do anything and we certainly didn't help Varly."

Colorado got off to a good start as Mitchell took a drop pass from Alex Tanguay and fired a wrist shot past Miller 1:15 into the game.

McGinn converted a behind-the-net feed from Jarome Iginla to make it 2-0 with 3:27 left in the opening period.
