Recap: Edmonton vs. Tampa Bay

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the game-winning goal with 3:25 to play as the Edmonton Oilers notched their first win of the season in a 3-2 decision over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Taylor Hall posted a goal and an assist, while Justin Schultz also scored for the Oilers, who had started out 0-4-1. Ben Scrivens posted 22 stops in the victory.

Brian Boyle and Brett Connolly scored for the Lightning, who fell to 1-1 in their five-game road trip. Ben Bishop allowed three goals on 23 shots in the loss.

"We just weren't making any plays," Bishop said. "Every time we got the puck we just flicked it and turned it over and they took it back to us."

Tampa Bay had tied the game with 6:05 to play as Tyler Johnson sent a short pass from the right circle to the slot where Connolly one-timed it home from one knee.

Just over 2 1/2 minutes later, though, Jordan Eberle picked off a cross-ice pass in the Tampa end and passed it over to the slot where Nugent-Hopkins was able to snap it under the glove of Bishop for a 3-2 lead.

Tampa pulled Bishop with over a minute to play, but was unable to get any pressure in the Edmonton end.

The first period passed without a goal, but the Lightning got on the board 1:21 into the second period as Boyle's turnaround shot from the right boards went in off the skate of an Oiler.

Edmonton, though, tied the game three minutes later as Schultz's backhander from the right side went into the left corner of the net for his first of the season.

Hall was pulled down from behind by Matt Carle on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot, which he converted when he slipped a backhand between the pads of Bishop for a 2-1 lead with 5:03 to play in the second.

"I haven't been too good on breakaways or penalty shots or shootouts in my career," said Hall. "I would have looked pretty silly if it didn't go in, but luckily it did."
