Recap: Philadelphia vs. Los Angeles

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Brayden Schenn's controversial goal with 2:24 remaining in overtime lifted Philadelphia over Los Angeles by a 3-2 count on Tuesday.

Schenn skated in all alone from the hosts' side of center ice in the neutral zone and shot low, but while Kings netminder Jonathan Quick smothered the shot with his pads, the puck was loose for a second. Schenn made a hard stop in the crease and the force of covering the rebound pushed Quick into the net with the puck presumably over the goal line.

The original call did not indicate a goal, but upon a conference of all four officials plus a brief review, the on-ice decision was overruled, giving the hosts their third straight victory.

"Yeah, it's always nice sconing goals and I guess it makes it a little extra special against LA," said Schenn, who arrived in Philly as part of a June, 2011 deal. "Didn't spend a whole lot of time there but it was a big win for our team and we've got to keep this going. We haven't had an easy schedule for the beginning of the year so it's another big two points for us."

Michael Raffl and Chris VandeVelde also lit the lamp while Jakub Voracek added a pair of assists for the Flyers, who received 38 saves from Ray Emery.

Tyler Toffoli and Mike Richards scored for the Kings, with Quick making 40 saves in the setback. The defending champs saw their season-high six-game win streak come to a halt.

Both sides exchanged scoring chances from the opening faceoff, before Raffl took a muted Claude Giroux chance and chopped it home from the right side with 5:24 elapsed in the first period.

Toffoli scored on a clean breakaway while shorthanded, taking a puck that had skipped over Philly defenseman Michael Del Zotto's stick, racing up the middle and scoring on the backhand at 13:08 of the first.

"It was a good bounce for me. They tried to throw back to the defenseman. To have it bounce off our stick and had a breakaway from our blue line. It was time to settle it down and make a move," Toffoli said.

VandeVelde then picked up his first as a Flyer, a one-timer from the slot off a Voracek dish to send the hosts up 2-1 at the first intermission.

Emery slid from post to post to stop a Tanner Pearson break-in with a minute elapsed in the second, then was seated in his crease minutes later to glove away a Jarret Stoll drive off a turnover.

Quick dove across his crease to deny a Raffl one-timer with his left pad just over three minutes into the third, and Richards eventually knotted the game when he was the late man on a scramble in front, pushing the puck past Emery at 5:01.

Emery stoned Toffoli at the right side with 7 1/2 minutes played, then a minute later, Voracek beat Quick on a long shot but the puck caromed off the right post.

"They just like to rip pucks, they have guys that can shoot and have big bodies," Emery noted of the Kings. "I thought we did a good job of keeping those big bodies away from the front of the net and clearing things when there were shots."
