Recap: St. Louis vs. Chicago

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Marian Hossa scored two goals in the third period to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday at Scottrade Center.

Hossa broke a tie game on a power play with 8:41 remaining and added an empty- netter with 13.5 seconds left.

Marcus Kruger and Bryan Bickell had the other goals for the Blackhawks, who have won two straight following back-to-back shutout losses.

Corey Crawford made 25 saves, including a critical stop on Alexander Steen's bid from the slot with 2:37 remaining in the game.

Vladimir Tarasenko and David Backes scored second-period goals for St. Louis, which was coming off Friday's 7-1 loss at Columbus that ended its impressive 12-0-1 stretch.

Brian Elliott allowed three goals on 27 shots.

Brad Richards drew a hooking penalty on Jay Bouwmeester midway through the third. On the go-ahead goal, Brandon Saad carried the puck into the St. Louis zone before dishing to Hossa for a one-timer from the slot.

"I thought we played real well in the third," said Chicago coach Joel Quenneville. "First and third were good, second was a little shaky."

Kruger opened the scoring at 4:38 of the first period. A giveaway by Carl Gunnarsson in the Chicago zone triggered a 2-on-1 rush for the Blackhawks. Kruger collected a pass from Daniel Carcillo and beat Elliott on the blocker side with a wrister from the high slot.

Tarasenko tied it for St. Louis at 6:52 of the second. He had a breakaway and made a skilled move, beating Crawford on the backhand. He was turned away by Crawford in the opening minute of the second on a 2-on-1. A bad line change on a turnover by Saad led to the chance.

The Blackhawks went up 2-1 with 8:35 remaining in the second on a goal by Bickell. Elliott gave up a long rebound, and the puck sat in the slot before Bickell fired it home.

Backes buried a rebound for the tying goal with 7:07 left in the second.

"I really thought after the second period, based on the way we played in the second, that we had a real push going, but we didn't sustain much in the third period," said Blues coach Ken Hitchcock.
