Recap: Columbus vs. Los Angeles

Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwight King and Jeff Carter each had a goal and an assist as the Los Angeles Kings grabbed a 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.

Dustin Brown and Tyler Toffoli each scored a goal for the Kings, who have won their past two. Jonathan Quick allowed three goals on 26 shots in the win.

"We need points because we haven't played well enough to sit back and see what happens," said Brown. "We have to go out there every night and do our best to get back into this race."

Jack Skille, Scott Hartnell and David Savard all scored for the Blue Jackets, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Curtis McElhinney allowed all four goals on 44 shots in the loss.

"They made it hard all over the ice tonight," said Columbus head coach Todd Richards. "We weren't able to get many plays because they were pressing us all night."

The Blue Jackets got on board just 1:40 in as Skille threw a shot on net from the right side that hit off the skate of LA's Jamie McBain and went in.

It took just 32 seconds for the Kings to respond, though, as Carter skated down the right wing and passed the puck to the front where King pushed it in for his eighth of the year.

LA took a 2-1 lead at 8:01 of the first when King sent a pass from the low left circle to the front where Toffoli wristed it over the glove of McElhinney.

Columbus tied the game at 14:18 of the second as Hartnell and Ryan Johansen worked the puck back-and-forth with Hartnell finishing off the play on a wrister from the right wing.

Again, though, the Kings quickly answered as Carter scored on a feed from Brayden McNabb at 15:34.

The Kings took a 4-2 lead 1:49 into the third as Brown sent a pass to the slot where Marian Gaborik's wrister was stopped, but Brown picked up the rebound at the left circle and wristed it in.

Savard scored on a wrister from the right point with the Blue Jackets skating 6-on-5 and 1:53 to play, but were unable to net the equalizer.

Game Notes

Hartnell appeared in his 1,000th game ... Los Angeles hosts Calgary on Thursday ... Columbus hosts Philadelphia on Friday ... Both teams were 0-for-1 on the power play.
