Recap: Dallas vs. Carolina

Dallas, TX ( - Eric Staal had two goals and an assist to lead the Carolina Hurricanes in a 6-4 win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

Jiri Tlusty, Patrick Dwyer, Victor Rask and Jeff Skinner all scored for the Hurricanes, who snapped a three-game skid. Cam Ward allowed four goals on 27 shots in the win.

"I liked how we stuck with it," Staal said. "It was a good effort by the guys in the second and third."

Tyler Seguin scored twice while Jamie Benn and Cody Eakin each posted a goal and an assist for the Stars, who have lost three straight. Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals on 16 shots in the start, while Anders Lindback gave up two goals on nine shots in relief.

"I think we are beating ourselves mentally right now," Seguin said. "I don't think anyone here thinks we're playing good hockey."

Trailing by two goals, the Hurricanes got their first one at 2:34 of the second period on Skinner's fourth of the year.

Just 4 1/2 minutes later, Carolina tied the game as Dwyer skated up the middle and lifted a backhand past Lehtonen.

It was a 3-2 game in Carolina's favor at 8:30 of the second as Rask's one- timer from the right circle sailed into the far side for a power-play marker.

Carolina kept pouring it on for a 4-2 lead when Elias Lindholm let fly with a shot from the right boards that Tlusty redirected in while parked in front of Lehtonen to the right of the net for his eighth of the season.

Just nine seconds into the third, the Hurricanes made it a 5-2 contest. Staal skated in on net and was able to stuff home his own rebound.

Dallas got one back 2 1/2 minutes later while shorthanded as Alex Goligoski's heavy wrister from the left circle hit off Eakin and went in.

The Stars then made it a 5-4 contest with 7:05 to play when John Klingberg fired a slap-pass from the right point that was redirected in by Seguin at the left side for his 14th of the year.

Carolina, though, put the game away with 3:57 to play as Riley Nash stole the puck in his own zone and skated down the right wing, saucering a pass over to the left where Staal slipped home a low backhand for his fifth of the season.

Benn scored 1:48 into the game to get the Stars on the board, while Seguin notched his first of the contest at 16:34 of the first for a 2-0 lead.
