Recap: Vancouver vs. Minnesota

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Biega scored in his first NHL game and helped the Vancouver Canucks quiet the streaking Minnesota Wild with a 3-2 victory on Monday.

Biega was recalled from Utica hours before the opening faceoff, and after toiling for five years in the AHL, the defenseman made it a memorable debut with what proved to be the game-winner.

"It's indescribable, the emotions running through my head right now," Biega said.

The goal snapped the Wild's 10-game point streak and gave the Canucks their third win in the past four games. Henrik Sedin and Bo Horvat also scored for the Vancouver, which received a 19-save effort from Eddie Lack.

Nino Niederreiter scored both of Minnesota's goals, while Devan Dubnyk made 26 saves in a losing effort -- just his second in regulation in 13 decisions since joining the Wild.

"We didn't play the game we should," Niederreiter admitted. "Sometimes we tried to get cute."

The Canucks were without two of their best defensemen in Alexander Edler and Chris Tanev, and their presence was missed when Niederreiter went uncovered in front of the net and redirected Jordan Schroeder's pass from the right boards.

The goal came the 8:44 mark of the opening period, and Sedin cashed in on a rebound 42 seconds into the second.

Dubnyk let another rebound get away early in the third, and this time Horvat dove and chipped it in 1:33 into the period.

Biega's blast from the point snuck past a screened Dubnyk with 8:06 left for a critical goal considering Niederreiter scored less than two minutes later.

Lack made several key stops in a furious final minute to preserve the win.
