Recap: Philadelphia vs. Pittsburgh

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Claude Giroux scored the winning goal with 1:03 to play in overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Flyers were skating on their second power play of overtime thanks to a too many men on the ice minor on the Pens.

With time winding down in the man advantage, Jakub Voracek threw a shot on net from the slot that Thomas Greiss stopped, but he couldn't find the rebound.

Eventually it wound up in the crease, where Giroux snapped it home for his 16th of the season and the win.

Chris VandeVelde and Luke Schenn also scored for the Flyers, who have won two of their last three. Ray Emery stopped 33 shots in the win.

"Pitt brings out that in all of us," said Philadelphia head coach Craig Berube. "You know there was a lot of emotion in the game, a lot of physical play. Guys were battling for each other, and we played a real good hockey game."

Chris Kunitz and Beau Bennett scored for the Penguins, who have lost their past three games. Greiss allowed all three goals on 40 shots in the loss.

"Well we want some momentum heading into the All-Star Break," said Pittsburgh head coach Mike Johnston. "So we've got to regroup, recover and get ready for a tough team in Chicago tomorrow."

The Flyers drew first blood, as Schenn picked off a bad clear in the high slot and wristed it in for his second goal of the season at 13:11 of the first.

Just over two minutes later, Philadelphia's Zac Rinaldo left his feet in a boarding of Kris Letang and was thrown out of the game. Letang was eventually helped into the locker room and never returned to the game.

The Pens were unable to take advantage of the ensuing five-minute power play, but did get on the board while short-handed in the second period. A 2-on-1 was finished off by Kunitz on a wrister from the left wing for his 14th goal of the season.

Pittsburgh took a 2-1 lead at 2:01 of the third with another short-handed goal, as another 2-on-1 break saw Evgeni Malkin get the puck over to the left side where Bennett wristed it in.

The Flyers, though, tied the game two minutes later on the power play, as VandeVelde redirected a Michael Del Zotto shot for his sixth goal of the season.
