Recap: Detroit vs. Ottawa

Detroit, MI ( - Mark Stone scored the deciding goal during the fourth round of the shootout to lift the playoff-hopeful Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

Clarke MacArthur scored late in regulation and Andrew Hammond made 16 saves for the Senators, who ended a three-game skid and remain three points behind the Bruins for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Gustav Nyquist lit the lamp and Petr Mrazek stopped 33 shots for the Red Wings, who have lost four of their last five games but are still in third place in the Atlantic Division.

"We turned the puck over too much," Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock said. "I didn't think it was smooth or pretty to watch."

Neither goaltender was able to stop the puck through the first two rounds of the shootout. Nyquist slid a backhander through Hammond's pads for Detroit, while Mika Zibanejad countered with a wrister over Mrazek's shoulder.

In the second round, Tomas Tatar stickhandled in the slot and fired a shot past the blocker, but Kyle Turris skated in quickly and shot the puck off Mrazek's pads and into the net.

After Marek Zidlicky and Bobby Ryan were unsuccessful, Stone followed Stephen Weiss' miss by moving the puck from his backhand to his forehand and wristed a shot past Mrazek's pad to seal the win.

MacArthur sent the game into overtime after he took a slick backhanded pass from Erik Karlsson, drifted across to the top of the slot and blasted a shot off the glove of Mrazek and into the net for a 1-1 game with 4:02 to play.

After a scoreless first period, Nyquist fooled Hammond by snapping a shot under his blocker from the top of the right circle for a Red Wings lead 5:43 into the middle stanza.

Less than three minutes into the third, Mrazek kept the Red Wings in front as he made a sliding glove save on Stone's one-timer.
