Recap: Philadelphia vs. Columbus

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek picked up two assists apiece and four different players registered goals, as Philadelphia doubled up Columbus, 4-2, on Saturday.

Brayden Schenn, Mark Streit, Wayne Simmonds and Braydon Coburn tallied once each for the Flyers, who put a season-worst four-game losing streak to rest.

Steve Mason earned his first win since Nov. 8 with 20 saves.

"We did a good job of keeping them from getting any momentum," said Simmonds. "We simplified our game tonight and that was a big thing."

Boone Jenner and Matt Calvert scored for the Blue Jackets, who have lost three in a row. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 33 shots in the setback.

"We're confident in each other, it's just the other teams making plays our us making mistakes," said Jenner. "We just need to keep working at it, watching the video and trying to get better."

Though the Flyers couldn't click with 16 seconds of 5-on-3 time late in the second, Simmonds slammed home a Voracek rebound at the left post during the 5- on-4 which provided the hosts with a two-goal advantage with 4:43 left prior to the game's final intermission.

Calvert knocked in a cross-ice Jack Skille pass from the doorstep and the Jackets pulled within a goal at 2:06 of the third.

But Coburn ripped a low, unscreened shot from the point through Bobrovsky's pads at 3:18 for his first goal of the season and Philly regained its two-goal edge which was protected through the end of regulation.

The hosts hit the scoreboard just 2:37 after puck drop, as a shot from the right-wing boards by Voracek caromed off a three-person scrum in front, hit the far post and slid home. Schenn, who was sandwiched between two Columbus defenders, was credited with the marker.

Jenner tied the game at 4:36, shortly into a Matt Read hooking minor. Although play was whistled dead when the puck exited the net, a brief review determined the goal should stand after revealing the shot hit the back brace under the crossbar.

Columbus failed to get a shot on net despite a 2-on-0 break against Mason as the clock ticked down to eight minutes left in the period, and a short time later Streit gave the hosts the lead again by swatting in his own rebound from the right side.

Streit recorded goals in back-to-back games first time all season, and for first time since Feb. 3-6 ... Coburn picked up his first goal since Mar. 8 vs. Toronto and notched his first multi-point effort since Mar. 2 against the Capitals ... Voracek, who leads the NHL with 22 assists and 29 points, has earned at least one point in 17 of Philadelphia's 19 games ... Jenner's power-play goal was the ninth given up by Flyers penalty killers in their last 17 short-handed situations to that point, but Columbus failed on its next two man advantages.
