Recap: Los Angeles vs. Detroit

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Quick posted 20 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and the Los Angeles Kings stayed hot with a 1-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

Quick has started the past eight games and won every one of them, allowing just 13 goals during that span.

Justin Williams scored the only goal of the game as the Kings have climbed their way back into the playoff chase thanks to the eight-game winning streak that was preceded by a spell of games that saw them lose 10 of 12.

"We took away time and space, we were good up-ice, and we were good through the neutral zone," Quick said.

Jonas Gustavsson played strong in the loss as he stopped 26 shots for the Red Wings, who fell to 2-1-1 on a six-game road trip.

"Gus gave us an opportunity, and our guys battled hard. They're a good team and we're a good team, there wasn?t much room out there," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said.

The Kings scored the only goal they needed at 2:24 of the first on the power play when Jake Muzzin blasted a shot on net from the left point that Anze Kopitar tipped then Williams got a stick on it for his 16th of the season.

Quick didn't have much work in the first period, as he faced just six shots and turned away seven in the second period.

The Kings killed off an early Detroit power play in the third period when Marian Gaborik was whistled for hooking just 12 seconds in.

Los Angeles, though, was awarded a power play with 5:21 to play after Jakub Kindl was called for hooking. It turned into a 5-on-3 for 25 seconds when Luke Glendening sent the puck over the glass for a delay of game call.

The Kings weren't able to score on the advantage, but were able to kill off a large chunk of time to help them take the victory.
