Recap: New Jersey vs. Calgary

Newark, NJ ( - Sean Monahan scored the game-winning goal early in the third period to lift the Calgary Flames to a much-needed 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

Curtis Glencross and T.J. Brodie also lit the lamp and Karri Ramo made 26 saves for the Flames, who ended a three-game skid and vaulted into the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, passing idle Minnesota.

"We scored that big goal early in the third and shut them down in the end with our penalty kill," Calgary head coach Bob Hartley said.

Mike Cammalleri provided New Jersey's lone marker and Cory Schneider stopped 23-of-25 shots for the Devils, who had a four-game winning streak snapped.

"It's tough to lose that one," said Schneider. "We can't let this one sit with us."

Monahan gave the Flames a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal 35 seconds into the third period. Mark Giordano jumped up to the right circle and Monahan was in front to direct the puck into the net.

Schneider was pulled with over a minute to play and Mikael Backlund took a delay-of-game penalty with 47 seconds left to give the Devils a man advantage.

Brodie, however, took a turnover in his own zone and sent the puck into the vacated net to seal the outcome.

Moments after Schneider stopped Jiri Hudler on a breakaway, Cammalleri took a drop pass from Jordin Tootoo and patiently backhanded the puck through the pads of Ramo to open the scoring with 2:57 left in the first.

Glencross tied the game with just 13.5 seconds left in the middle stanza. Joe Colborne skated up the right side and sent a backhanded saucer pass across the crease to Glencross, who wristed a shot over Schneider's blocker.
