Recap: New Jersey vs. Florida

Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Keith Kinkaid made 26 saves to backstop the New Jersey Devils to a 3-1 win over visiting the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.

Kinkaid was bidding for his first NHL shutout, but allowed a goal to Brandon Pirri with 1:29 remaining.

"Tough one to give up," Kinkaid said. "I thought there was a little contact and I couldn't get over. I'm just happy we got the win."

Steve Bernier had scored an empty-net goal a minute earlier to seal the Devils' third win in four games.

Jaromir Jagr and Mike Cammalleri had first-period goals for New Jersey, which registered just one shot in the second and two in the third.

Roberto Luongo stopped 11 shots as the Panthers suffered their sixth loss in seven games.

"We got to do a better job of being ready right off the hop," said Florida forward Shawn Thornton.

Jagr gave the Devils a 1-0 lead 9:40 into the game. The goal was the 715th of his career, leaving him two behind Phil Esposito for fifth all-time.

Cammalleri made it 2-0 on a power play with 5:23 remaining in the first period. Bernier sent a no-look, backhand pass between his legs to the right circle for Cammalleri, who scored from one knee on a one-timer.

Game Notes

The Devils have won seven straight home games against the Panthers, including playoffs ... Florida was 0-for-2 on the power play.
