Recap: Edmonton vs. St. Louis

Edmonton, AB ( - Paul Stastny scored the game-winning goal with 5:40 left in regulation to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

Stastny also assisted on Dmitrij Jaskin's marker and Brian Elliott made 21 saves for the Blues, who were coming off a 2-1 shootout win over Winnipeg on Thursday.

"Sometimes it just clicks," said Stastny. "It's always good to win in regulation."

Justin Schultz supplied Edmonton's lone goal and Ben Scrivens allowed both goals on 27 shots in defeat.

"This one was a tough one to swallow," Oilers forward Jordan Eberle said. "We really wanted to beat these guys."

Stastny took a stretch pass from Ian Cole through the neutral zone, skated into the slot and backhanded a shot past Scrivens for the deciding tally.

The Oilers pulled their netminder with over a minute to play, but failed to force overtime.

Jaskin opened the scoring with 7:49 left in the first by taking a cross-ice feed from Stastny and snapping a shot past Scrivens from the right circle.

Schultz skated to the high slot and blasted a shot from the high slot the beat Elliott glove side for a tied game 6:31 into the middle stanza.

Game Notes

Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester blocked two shots and logged 21:16 of ice time in his 900th NHL game ... St. Louis improved to 28-4-1 when scoring first this season ... Edmonton defenseman Jeff Petry was held out of the lineup and is likely to be moved prior to Monday's trade deadline ... The Blues have won six straight games and 11 of their last 12 against the Oilers.
