Recap: New Jersey vs. Carolina

Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Terry scored the lone goal of the shootout to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.

Carolina netminder Anton Khudobin made two big saves to earn his first win of the season. He stacked the pads on Mike Cammalleri and kicked aside Adam Henrique's offering.

Terry, Carolina's third shooter, followed his goaltender's impressive stops by moving the puck from his backhand to his forehand and slipping it under the pad of Cory Schneider for the win.

Ron Hainsey scored the game-tying goal in the third period and Khudobin finished with 18 saves for the Hurricanes, who snapped a two-game skid and won on the road for the first time since Nov. 28.

"Anton has been very good for us. Good for him to get off the schneid and get a win," Carolina head coach Bill Peters said. "The guys played hard in front of him."

Stephen Gionta netted New Jersey's lone goal and Schneider stopped 32 shots in defeat.

"We wanted to finish strong before the break," Cammalleri said. "It's a little disappointing right now for sure."

The Hurricanes pulled even after Andrej Sekera's shot from the left circle deflected off a Devils' stick, was tipped into the air by Patrick Dwyer and bounced off Hainsey's knee in the crease for a tied game with just over eight minutes to play.

New Jersey went on the power play with 1:14 left in regulation after Hainsey went off for interference, but the Devils were unable to convert during the third and the game went to overtime.

Hainsey had a breakaway coming out of the penalty box, but was denied by Schneider and Khudobin stopped Henrique's backhander in tight as the game was sent to a shootout.

The Devils started the scoring as Steve Bernier slipped a pass back to Gionta, whose blast from the top of the right circle deflected off a Carolina defender and under the glove of Khudobin with 6:28 remaining in the first period.

Carolina had a few good chances in the second. Nash moved in from the right circle, but his wrister found iron midway and Schneider made a point-blank glove save off Brendan Woods in close with under four minutes to play.
