Recap: Ottawa vs. Toronto

Ottawa, ON ( - Kyle Turris finished with two goals, including the game-winner, to power the Ottawa Senators to a 5-3 victory over the lowly Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Erik Karlsson tallied a goal and an assist, while Curtis Lazar and Mike Hoffman also scored for the Senators, who have won six straight games and nine of their last 10.

"Gutsy win," Ottawa head coach Dave Cameron said. "We were really solid in the third. It was a huge win."

Andrew Hammond made 22 saves to improve to 13-0-1 as an NHL starter and picked up an assist on Turris' empty-net goal. He is the fifth goaltender in NHL history to have 14 consecutive starts without a regulation loss to start a career.

Joakim Lindstrom, Tim Erixon and Leo Komarov all lit the lamp in the Maple Leafs' fifth straight loss. James Reimer allowed three goals on 18 shots, while Jonathan Bernier stopped 21-of-22 shots in relief.

"It's obviously nice to put one in, but it doesn't really matter now. We wanted a win there," said Erixon.

Toronto got within 3-2 as Zach Sill took an errant Ottawa pass and dished the puck to Komarov, who wristed a shot past Hammond 4:30 into the second period.

Erixon's shot from the blueline flew past a screened Hammond for a tied game with 4:28 left to play in the middle stanza.

The Senators went back in front with a power-play goal. Karlsson faked a shot from the point and sent the puck down to the right circle, where Turris blasted a shot past a screened Bernier with 52 seconds left in the second.

Bernier was pulled with over a minute to play, but Turris scored on the vacated cage with 46.6 seconds remaining to seal the outcome.

Hoffman opened the scoring as he took Alex Chiasson's pass from the right corner, settled puck down at the left circle and snapped a shot past Reimer's glove with 6:40 left in the first.

Less than three minutes later, Karlsson jumped up on an odd-man rush and buried a wrister from the left circle for a 2-0 game.

In the middle frame, Lindstrom put the Maple Leafs on the board by redirecting Dion Phaneuf's point blast at 2:42. Lazar, however, responded 27 seconds later with a shot into the top left corner of the net to chase Reimer from the game.
