Recap: Philadelphia vs. Dallas

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Vernon Fiddler scored 13:50 into the third period to lift the Dallas Stars to a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.

It was just the second time the Stars beat the Flyers in their last 10 meetings dating back to the 2008-09 season.

Brett Ritchie also scored and Kari Lehtonen made 25 saves for the Stars, who bounced back from a loss at Tampa Bay on Saturday to improve to 3-1 since a six-game losing streak.

Lehtonen had never beaten the Flyers before in 13 previous meetings, including 12 starts.

"He made the saves when he needed to," said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. "A couple situations when we had break downs, I thought he read the plays right and was right there. The goal that beat him went off our guy so it was a really clean night for him."

Luke Schenn had Philadelphia's only goal early in the first period.

Steve Mason did all he could in the loss, stopping 37 of the 39 shots he faced as the Flyers suffered their first home loss in regulation since Feb. 17. They had been 4-0-2 at Wells Fargo Center since then.

It was Philadelphia's third loss in a row overall at a time in the season when the team should be making a playoff push.

Mason said he was "embarrassed" by the overall effort.

"There's no desperation," he said. "It's tough to come in a room after games like that where we just needed to have a much better effort. It just wasn't there."

"I'm embarrassed," he said. "I hope everybody else is embarrassed because we have an effort like that at home in situations where we have to come up big, and we come up empty. We have to be a lot better."

Fiddler scored from in front of the crease to give the Stars the lead after Colton Sceviour slipped a sharp-angle pass into the slot from the left side.

The Flyers scored 73 seconds into the game when Schenn's wrist shot from the high right side was deflected by brother Brayden in front for his 13th of the season.

The Stars tied the score at 11:23 on Ritchie's goal from the low left side off a pass from Curtis McKenzie near the boards.

Mason had 16 saves in a scoreless second period and Lehtonen made seven.
