Recap: Ottawa vs. Buffalo

Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Bobby Ryan scored three goals for his fourth career hat trick and the Ottawa Senators snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night.

Ryan scored Ottawa's first three goals and Clarke MacArthur and Colin Greening also found the net, ending the Senators' 0-2-1 skid. Craig Anderson made 19 saves in the win, only facing two shots in the third period.

"To come out of my shell offensively was due," Ryan said. "This is an opportunity for us to start stringing wins together."

Zemgus Girgensons and Mark Pysyk scored for the Sabres, who have dropped five of six. Jhonas Enroth gave up four goals on 35 shots.

"We made mistakes that led to their goals and didn't make it tough enough for them," Sabres head coach Ted Nolan said. "Uncharacteristic game for us."

The Sabres scored three goals in the third period and beat the Islanders 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night to snap a four-game losing streak, but they have lost six in a row on the road.

They had a 2-1 lead against the Senators before Ryan scored his second goal of the game from in front of the crease at 18:41 of the second period to make it 2-2.

Ryan's one-timer from the slot 3:02 into the third period gave the Senators a 3-2 lead and MacArthur scored from in close at 11:54. Greening added an empty- net goal in the final seconds.

Earlier, Ottawa took a 1-0 lead on Ryan's first goal with 1:36 remaining in the opening period.

Pysyk scored 1:53 into the second period after picking off an errant Buffalo pass in the neutral zone to start a rush and eventually hammering the puck in from beside the net on a rebound.

Girgensons then gave the Sabres a 2-1 lead at 8:37, jamming in his own rebound after driving an initial try on net off a fluttering pass from Matt Moulson into the slot.
