Minsk, Belarus (SportsNetwork.com) - Canada rolled past Denmark and the United States was beaten by Latvia as round-robin play continued Thursday at the 2014 World Hockey Championship.

The Canadians earned their third straight victory after an opening-game loss to France with a 6-1 rout on Thursday. Cody Hodgson recorded a hat trick and Matt Read scored twice for Canada, which sits atop Group A with 10 points.

Jonathan Huberdeau also scored and Ben Scrivens stopped 29 shots in the victory. Hodgson scored in the second period to snap a 1-1 tie and the Canadians poured it on with four goals in the third, including two from Read in a span of 1:53 early in the stanza.

The Americans, meanwhile, suffered their second straight loss with a 6-5 setback. The U.S. had won its opening two games against Belarus and Switzerland before a 6-1 pounding at the hands of Russia on Monday.

With two days to recover, the Americans managed enough offense on Thursday, but had trouble keeping the puck out of their own net. Tim Thomas was victimized for all six goals on just 25 shots.

Seth Jones scored with 6:34 remaining in the third period to tie it for the U.S. at 4-4, but Zemgus Girgensons -- Latvia's lone NHL player -- snapped the deadlock just 69 seconds later and Herberts Vasilijevs made it 6-4 with 2:21 left.

Brock Nelson netted his second goal with 1:30 remaining to pull the U.S. within one, but the Americans could not find the equalizer after pulling Thomas for an extra attacker.

Latvia ended a six-game World Championship losing streak to the United States and moved into second place in Group B with nine points. The Americans are tied with Belarus for third with six points.

Belarus will face Finland later Thursday in Group B, while Sweden and France square off in Group A.
