Lupul signs five-year extension

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Joffrey Lupul to a five-year extension through the 2017-18 season on Sunday.

While financial terms of the deal were not released, it was earlier reported to be for $26.25 million over the length of the contract and also includes a limited no-trade clause.

"Joffrey has proven to be a dynamic offensive player and since joining our hockey club he has fit in extremely well with our team," said Toronto general manager Dave Nonis. "His alternate captaincy is well deserved and, by signing this extension, we look forward to him playing a large role with the Leafs for many years to come."

An eight-year veteran of the NHL, Lupul totaled 25 goals and 42 assists for a career-high 67 points last season.

The 29-year-old has career totals of 151 goals and 172 assists over 517 games for Anaheim, Edmonton, Philadelphia and Toronto.
