Sunrise, FL ( - Florida Panthers goaltender Tim Thomas will be sidelined at for at least a week due to a groin strain he aggravated in the team's last outing.

Thomas was forced to exit Tuesday's 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago late in the third period due to the injury. The Panthers placed the former Vezina Trophy winner on injured reserve Wednesday, meaning he'll be forced to miss at least the team's next two games.

The 39-year-old previously sustained the same injury three games into his comeback season, when he strained his groin in an Oct. 8 matchup against Philadelphia. Thomas sat out the next four games, but had started Florida's last three contests.

Florida has summoned veteran Scott Clemmensen from AHL San Antonio to serve as the backup to Jacob Markstrom during Thomas' absence.

Thomas has gone 2-3-0 with a 3.11 goals-against average over six starts with the Panthers, who signed the four-time All-Star just prior to the beginning of the regular season.
