Pittsburgh, PA ( - The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that defenseman Kris Letang will return to the lineup Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings.

Letang, 26, has been sidelined since suffering a stroke in late January.

"Kris was cleared by doctors and it was his choice on when to return," Penguins general manager Ray Shero said. "He's been bugging me for a while to play."

Letang last played for the Penguins on Jan. 27 versus Buffalo.

A Norris Trophy finalist a year ago, Letang has 10 goals and eight assists in 34 games this season.
