Perry leads PGA Professional by 1

Sunriver, OR (Sports Network) - Rod Perry posted an even-par 72 on Monday to remain atop the leaderboard after two rounds of the 46th PGA Professional National Championship.

Perry, who shared the first-round lead, is alone atop the leaderboard at 8- under-par 135. He played his second round at on the Crosswater Course, which will host the final two rounds.

The par-71 Meadows Course at Sunriver Resort was used also for the first two rounds of stroke play.

Perry had matching nines. He started on the back nine and parred his first hole, then traded a birdie for a bogey at 11 and 12. After seven straight pars around the turn, Perry birdied the second, but gave that stroke right back with a bogey on the third. He closed with six straight pars.

Mark Sheftic, who works at Merion which just hosted the U.S. Open, posted a 4- under 67 on Monday to move into a share of second place with Chip Sullivan at minus-7. Sullivan, the 2007 champion, also shot 67 on Monday.

Corey Prugh, who shared the first-round lead, stumbled to a 2-over 74 and fell into fourth place at 6-under 137. Jeff Sorenson (74) and Rob Labritz (67) share fifth at minus-5.

Three-time champion Mike Small managed a 1-under 70 in round two. He finished 36 holes at 4-under-par 139. Two other former winners -- 2004 champ Bob Sowards (2-under 141) and 2008 winner Scott Hebert (2-over 145) -- also made it through to the final two rounds.

Last year's winner Matt Dobyns managed an even-par 71 in round two, but missed the cut by two strokes. Six other former winners -- David Hutsell, Ron Philo, Jr., Wayne DeFrancesco, Darrell Kestner, Steve Schneiter and Brett Upper -- failed to make the cut.
