Stateline, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Iraq veteran Chad Pfeifer opened with a total of 24 points Friday to take the first-round lead of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship.

Former ACC champion and former NHL player Jeremy Roenick shot an even-par 72 for a total of 23 points to end the day in a solo second place, while another former champion, Mark Rypien, is in a solo third with 22 points.

Annika Sorenstam carded a 1-under 71 for a total of 21 points in her first competitive round since retirement and is tied for fourth. Defending champion Billy Joe Tolliver, a former NFL quarterback, finished 4-over for a total of 16 points at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The tournament uses a modified Stableford format that awards 10 points for a double eagle, eight for a hole-in-one, six for an eagle, three for birdie, one for par, zero for bogey and minus-2 for double-bogey or worse.

Pfeifer, an amputee who is attempting to become the first professional tournament golfer to use a prosthetic limb, opened his round with a bogey at the first, but birdied holes four and five to make the turn at 1-under. He countered a bogey at the 15th with birdies at the 14th and 17th during his back nine to close out his 2-under 70.
