New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan was named the Player of the Week on Tuesday for Week 12 of the 2014 Major League Soccer season.

Donovan scored two goals and added one assist in the Galaxy's 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Union. It was a historic performance as Donovan claimed sole possession of MLS's career goal-scoring record with 136 goals scored.

The 32-year-old assisted on the game's opening goal in the second minute by delivering a free kick from distance to Galaxy defender Leonardo, who was able to head it home from the center of the box.

Donovan turned from provider to scorer in the 49th minute by feeing the ball to teammate Robbie Keane on the right side of the box. Keane then slotted the ball across the goal past Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath for Donovan to easily finished.

The brace was completed nine minutes from time when when Donovan played the ball into Keane down the left flank. Keane played it right back to Donovan in the center of the box and the forward's left-footed shot beat MacMath to the bottom right corner.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North America Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
