Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Vancouver Whitecaps Designated Player Kenny Miller has agreed to a six-month contract extension, the club announced on Wednesday.

Miller, 33, will remain with the club until June 2014. He became the team's fourth Designated Player signing on July 16, 2012 and has scored eight goals while starting 20 of his 26 appearances in just over one year in Vancouver.

"I'm delighted to sign a contract extension with the Whitecaps," said Miller. "I've really enjoyed my time in Vancouver and so has my family. The fans here are unbelievable, the club is always very professional, and I think we have a special group of players."

The Scottish international has bagged 17 goals in 68 appearances for his country. The native of Edinburgh, Scotland, was recently called up to Gordon Strachan's 29-man squad for next month's friendly against England at Wembley Stadium.

"This is an important move for our club and speaks to the value we place on continuity as we continue to build," said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. "Kenny is a great leader and his contributions both on and off the pitch have been instrumental to the success of our team. It's an exciting time for the club and we look forward to a strong finish to the 2013 campaign."

Per club and league policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
