Portland, OR (Sports Network) - The Portland Timbers continued to make moves on Monday, announcing that the club has acquired defender Michael Harrington from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for allocation money.

The move comes shortly after Portland revealed that it sent defender Kosuke Kimura and a second-round pick to Red Bull New York for allocation money and Homegrown rights to University of Akron defender Bryan Gallego.

Harrington, 26, has played all six seasons of his MLS career with Sporting, logging five goals and 14 assists in 149 matches. He was the third overall pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of North Carolina.

"Michael is a versatile player with MLS experience who can fill a variety of roles," said Timbers General Manager Gavin Wilkinson. "He will be a great addition to the organization for the way that [head coach] Caleb Porter wants to play and is expected to fight for a starting position."

Portland made additional transactions on Monday, announcing that it had declined options on defenders Lovel Palmer and Steve Purdy while acquiring allocation money from the Houston Dynamo in exchange for defender Eric Brunner.
